NEW IDEA - FLAT COLOUR?
What I've done here is picked a variety of children's books and done colour wheels for each one to show what their colour schemes are like and so I can compare and choose the type of colours I like. I did have pages of writing about each book and examples of them but blogger deleted it all again so I have to stick to the basic information and miss out the annotations as I've spent the last 4 hours rewriting all the missing information. The process above is what I went through to get to this point - all the different colours I've tried.

all together - I'm loving the darker ones, such as The Gruffalo, Monkey Puzzle, Tintin and Giraffes don't dance. Personally I like the more intense colour wheels. I feel the limited colour palettes wouldn't suit my book. |

Just using the six colours for the dragons and black? might be too boring |
|
Neon? no - too gaudy and harsh on the eyes |

1ST FAVOURITE: MUTED COLOURS |
|
2ND FAVOURITE: BRIGHT COLOURS |
|
lots of hues of the same colours? 6 colours - six hues of each? maybe be too much purple |
|
I will put these two choices onto Facebook and let a vote decide which one I use. |
I got people to like the ones they wanted me to use
I've received mixed responses for the colours: a lot of the older viewers have liked the more muted colours, however the majority are going for the brighter colour ones. I feel the brighter colours would grab children's attention more yet I feel the muted ones would look nicer and less gaudy.
There were a few common remarks about mixing them - so having the muted colours in the background and then brighter colours for the dragons so they pop out of the page. I like this idea. Sort of how Chris Ware works. I think I will use that method to colour it.

Chris ware's stuff: dull backgrounds and bright elements to foreground.
