Looking at the artwork together and showing the stages of bookbinding I went through

From right to left - the stages

far right: second dummy, first one sewn and original story

Evaluation: very tatty from extended travelling and contact - story didn't flow as good as it could

2nd from the right: second dummy, new bits added to story - sewn again,

Evaluation: story had bits added so flows better now, however the sewing was horrendous as neither myself nor Emma could remember how to do it. Also the pages stick out further than I wanted them too. The string wrapped round the outside of the book, so I couldn't trim the edges without potentially cutting the thread and letting the book fall apart.
(This one was actually made after the third dummy - but put it next to the original to show I tried to do the japanese book bind with thicker paper and colour pages)

centre: Black and white third dummy, glue bound

Tried out signatures and unfortunately it printed all the pages in order, so I cut them all to A4 and used the glue machine to stick them all together. I really liked the feel and the effect. It made the book chunky and actually feel like a book. However the pages started falling out the moment I got it home. So not good for a long term choice.

2nd from the left: Full colour glue bound

Evaluation: Ditto to above, except in colur. Because I wanted to see what it would be like in colour glue bound.

Left: finished polished, paid for copy.

LOVE IT! It looks like a proper book! Plus feels substantial and like it will last for a while.
